PROJECT COMPLETED:
"MultiObjective Optimization of metallurgical Tundish using Genetic Algorithm based Computational Fluid Dyamics Model" under Prof N Chakraborti at IIT Kharagpur
Summary: We made an attempt to characterize tundish of different configurations using a 3-D steady state mathematical simulation usingg CFD Technique and then optimize the simulated data. Apart from generation of flow profiles of steel inside the tundish, the residence time distribution (RTD) curves have been predicted for analysis of flow behavior inside the tundish. For the optimization of the simulated data, stress on the wall of the metallurgical tundish is to be minimized while mixing of the steel in the tundish has to be maximized, subjected to the constraints on different operating parameters. We have used Real coded predator-prey multi-objective evolutionary algorithm. I have written the code for the above algorithm and incorporate the cross-over feature of the Differential Evolution into it. Coding is done in FORTRAN 90. I analyze the result of the above algorithm for different test functions and compare it with the existing results.
"Coding and design of Computer based training for GIS (Geographical Information System) software" at Tatainfotech Limited
Summary: Objective was to prepare a computer based training (CBT) for the user which are new to the central Ground Water Board project, along with this we also go through the basic small projects in Visual C++, which is the main platform used in central Ground Water Board Project. We used Macromedia Flash to prepare the tutorial pages. We connect these pages with database of the GWIS software. We have been given enough exposure to the SQL and Visual C++ programming.
ON-GOING PROJECTS:
"Analysis of the Diesel Engine combustion chamber using CFD Techniques" at NIT Jalandhar under Prof. Pramod S Mehta
Summary: The project is related to the analysis of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation of the different combustion chamber geometries in terms of their flow field distribution and turbulence generation. We have used FLUENT Inc. software package for this analysis. Three-dimensional simulation is carried out for closed part of the cycle involving compression and expansion processes. The qualitative influence of different parameters concerning combustion chamber and engine operating condition as well as turbulence is discussed. This work provides a clear understanding of effect of combustion chamber geometry on in-cylinder flow field and turbulence in DI diesel engine.
